Jedes Foto drückt ein anderes aus, welches wiederum vom nächsten ausgedrückt wird, wodurch eine Reihe von Erscheinungen entsteht, die wir die Welt der Fotografie nennen. Auf dieser Reise durch Bilderserien, vor einem Foto stehend, begegnen wir dem Unergründlichen und können fragen: Was drückt das Foto aus? Sind es unsere Erinnerungen, die Dinge selbst oder vielleicht die Vorstellungen, die wir von der Realität haben? Jedes Foto, obwohl es Zeugnis des Unaussprechlichen ist und das Gesehene hinterfragt, regt uns an zu fragen: Wo stehen wir? Die Ausstellung im Kunstkonsulat versteht sich als einzigartige Abhandlung über die Methode des Lesens von Fotografien. Doch jede Methode muss sich im Laufe der Zeit bewähren. In diesem Fall ist die Archäologie der Fotografie nicht nur eine Methode der Bildforschung, sondern auch eine kreative Praxis, deren Erzählungen im neuen Kontext einer Zivilisation im rasanten Wandel – sozial, politisch und künstlerisch – entstehen. Der Betrachter, der vor dem Foto Position einnimmt, muss diese Position jedes Mal neu definieren. Daher die Notwendigkeit, jede Methode des Lesens von Bildern neu zu definieren. Und genau darum geht es in der Ausstellung im Kunstkonsulat.
Archeology of photography / REDEFINITION
Each photograph expresses another photograph, which in turn is expressed by the next, creating a series of appearances we call the world of photography. Along this sequence of images, as we stand before a photograph, we encounter the Unknowable and may ask: what does the photograph express—our memories, things-in-themselves, or perhaps the notions we weave about reality? While every photograph bears witness to the inexpressible and casts doubt on what we see, it also compels us to ask: where do we stand? The exhibition at Kunstkonsulat is intended as a discourse on the method of reading photographs. Yet any method must stand the test of time. In this instance, the archaeology of photography is not merely a method of understanding images but also a creative practice; its narratives emerge within a new civilizational context defined by rapid social, political, and artistic change. The observer standing before a photograph must redefine their position anew each time—hence the need to redefine every method of image interpretation. And that is precisely what the exhibition at Kunstkonsulat is about.
